AMAN BAGS GOLD AND DEEPAK BRONZE IN ASIAN WRESTLING; INDIAN WOMEN FINISH THIRD

ASTANA (KAZAKHSTAN) : Aman clinched the gold medal for India after overcoming Almaz Smanbekov (KGZ) by VPO1, 9 – 4 in the 57 kg freestyle final of the competitions in the Asian Senior Wrestling Championship. Earlier, Under- 23 world champion Aman was pitted against Chinese Wanhao Luo). After he was called passive Luo took a 1-0 lead. Aman scored a step out to commence the second period. A nice ankle pick for Aman to lead 2-2 on criteria.

Luo was tiring and Aman established a commanding 7-2 lead. Luo got a single leg for a takedown to reduce the lead to 7-4 and Aman marched into the final and went on to grab the top ranking in his category.

India earned a bronze medal through Deepakwho defeated Shuhrat Bozorov (TJK) by VSU1, 12 – 1 in the 79 kg category.

In the 70kg class Yoshinosuke Aoyagi (JPN) defeated Mulaym Yadav (IND) by VSU1, 14 – 4 as the Indian finished 10th.

With two silver and five bronze medals Indian women finished third with 147 ponts.

Antim Poghal (53 kg) and Nisha (68 kg) gave India silver medals in their respective categories.

Anshu Malik (57 kg, Bronze), : Sonam Malik (62 kg), Manisha (65 kg), : Reetika Hooda (72 kg) and Priya (76 kg) earned bronze medals for India. Japan emerged winners in the women's category with a haul of five gold, two silver and two bronze medals and 205 points. China secured runners up spot withj 149 points with two gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
