Water Resources, Mining, Governance Reforms and Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Saturday announced that soon Rs 5.50 per cubic foot of sand will also be available from 100 commercial sites of the state. He said that all the sites were being tendered afresh during the month of March. He was addressing a huge gathering of people at village Sekha Kalan before laying the foundation stone for Sivian distributary at a cost of Rs 13.50 crore.
Meet Hayer said that the aim of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government was to make 250 sites operational by July this year, of which 100 sites will be commercial and 150 sites will be of the public sector. He said that currently 16 government sites have been commissioned across the state and 32 more sites would be operational in March. He said that in order to stop the illegal trade and black market of sand, the Punjab government has divided the 7 blocks of the state into 100 blocks.
The minister further said that promoting agriculture and providing water to every farm is the top priority of the Punjab government. He said that lining work is being done across the state by spending Rs 500 crore rupees. He said that earlier the farmer had to pay 10 percent for this work, but now the government would bear 100 percent of the cost. He announced that the work of Bagha distributary would also start next year. Apart from this, he also announced the opening of a new facility in Baghapurana.
Meet Hayer said that farmers were being consulted for the new agricultural policy and this policy is not being drafted while sitting in AC rooms. He said that MSP is being given on moong and Rs 1500 per acre is being given for direct sowing of rice to bring agricultural diversification. He appealed to the farmers to save water.
Earlier thanking the Punjab Government and the Minister, MLA Mr. Amritpal Singh Sukhanand said that Sivian distributary was a long-pending demand of the people, which has been fulfilled today. He said that it will directly benefit 18 villages of the area and 21 thousand acres of land will get irrigation facility which was earlier limited to 14 thousand acres only.
Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora, MLA Moga, Deepak Arora, Chairman Nagar Improvement Trust Moga, Mr. Harmandeep Singh Brar, Chairman District Planning Board and others also addressed the gathering. On this occasion, Mr. Devinderjit Singh Ladi Dhons, MLA Dharamkot, SDM Mr. Ram Singh and Mr. Shammi Kumar, Chief Engineer Water Resources Department were also present.
KHELO INDIA YOUTH GAMES WINNER PUNJAB GATKA TEAM HONOURED
The team members of Gatka team of Punjab that won 3 gold and 2 bronze medals in the games organized recently under Khelo India Youth Games in Madhya Pradesh, and their coaches were felicitated on Saturday by Punjab Gatka Association during a simple yet impressive ceremony at Mohali.
Divulging further, General Secretary of Punjab Gatka Association Baljinder Singh Toor said that Khelo India Youth Games were organized by the Government of India and Sports Authority of India from January 30 to February 11 in Madhya Pradesh. He said that players from Punjab won 10 gold medals in these games and Gatka team bagged the maximum number of medals for the state.
Speaking on occasion, Director of Sports Amit Talwar appreciated the team for upholding the glory of Punjab's ancient game Gatka. He assured that the Punjab government would soon frame new policies to promote Gatka.
Meanwhile, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, President, Gatka Federation of India said that the entire team of the Federation has been working hard since 2008 to get Gatka recognized at the national level. “Due to untiring efforts, the game of Gatka is now being played in other states of India as well and the Government of India has also recognized it”, he added.
Congratulating the winners on this occasion, the President of the Punjab Gatka Association Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal said that Gatka players have a bright future and encouraged the youth to opt this game. Gatka players honoured on this occasion includes Jotinder Singh, Armanjot Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and in girls Gurwinder Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, Prabhkiran Kaur, Khushveer Kaur, and Mehakpreet Kaur. Team manager Jaswinder Singh Pabla, coach Amanjeet Singh Bhatti and Sandeep Kaur, and the technical officials including Jagdish Singh Kurali, Manvinder Singh Amritsar, Rajveer Singh Kharar, Raghbir Singh Ludhiana, Gurlal Singh Tarn Taran, Harmanjot Singh Mohali, and Dalip Kumar Singh were also felicitated. Ranbir Singh Thapar of Elina Auto Industries extended a warm welcome to all the chief guests on the occasion.

Punjab's economy has been primarily agriculture-based since the Green Revolution due to the presence of abundant water sources and fertile soils; most of the state lies in a fertile alluvial plain with many rivers and an extensive irrigation canal system. Punjab makes up for about 17% of India's wheat production, around 12% of its rice production, and around 5% of its milk production, being known as India's breadbasket. Despite covering only 1.53% of its geographical area, Punjab makes up for about 15–20% of India's wheat production, around 12% of its rice production, and around 10% of its milk production.
Punjab Food Processing cabinet minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra said the state government is giving a major push to the food processing sector, which will create job opportunities for youth on one hand and immensely benefit farmers as well. He stated that state is emerging as a food processing hub. He said the state government has put food processing sector in key thrust areas and offering a host of incentives to food processing units.
The minister said Punjab CM has already announced to set up 20 dedicated Rural Industrial Hubs across the state will boost industrial development. He further said that these hubs will be equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to facilitate industrialists in setting up their units. The Minister assured fulsome support and cooperation to the start-ups, Entrepreneurs, industrialists opting for setting up their units in Punjab.

She also invites State Government and Punjab Industrialist to participate in Mega Food Event 2023 from 3rd to 5th November, New Delhi, a global event to showcase connect and collaborate.
Dalip Sharma, Secretary General, Punjab Chamber of Commerce and Industry also supported this KCCI initiative and addressed the local aspects of the Food Processing and Agribusiness Sector. Rahul Mittal, Representative KCCI Punjab elaborated and highlighted the Vision of KCCI FOR Punjab and will soon start its operational wing for the development of the industries at large. He also highlighted the Ek Koshish initiative where the local players will be benefited. Through “EK KOSHISH“ which aims to identify the rare disappearing “Makeshifters“ referred as “Jugads“ specifically in rural aeras and then making them streamline after registering and patenting in a duration set duration of 18 months which will end in early 2024.

AMAN ARORA CONDOLES SAD DEMISE OF MOTHER OF SENIOR IAS A VENU PRASAD
Punjab Information & Public Relations and New & Renewable Energy Sources Minister Mr Aman Arora on Saturday mourned the sad demise of Mrs. A Mangamma, the mother of Additional Chief Secretary to CM and ACS New & Renewal Energy Sources department Mr. A Venu Prasad. Mrs. A Mangamma (83) is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Extending his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, Mr. Aman Arora prayed the Almighty to give the family strength to bear this irreparable loss and grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
“It’s indeed a huge loss to the family but Mrs A Mangamma’s values and dedication will keep guiding the entire family in future as well”, said the Cabinet Minister.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Mrs. A Mangamma, the mother of Additional Chief Secretary to CM A Venuprasad, who passed away at Hyderabad due to age related complications . She was 83 and is survived by two sons and two daughters.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that the death of Mrs A Mangamma is a huge loss for the entire family. He described Mrs A Mangamma as a pious soul committed to the basic human values. Bhagwant Mann said that the path shown by Mrs A Mangamma enabled the entire family to excel in every sphere of life and serve the nation with commitment, zeal and dedication.
Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, Bhagwant Mann prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to family members to bear this irreparable loss.
Meanwhile, cremation of Mrs A Mangamma will be held today in Hyderabad at 4:30 pm.
