PU ORGANISED PLANTATION DRIVE ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

The Horticulture Division of Panjab University today organised a plantation near HRDC Building, South Campus to commemorate World Environment Day. Prof. Raj Kumar, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Panjab University was the Chief Guest at the plantation. Prof. Sudhir Kumar, Dean Research; Prof. Kashmir Singh, Secretary to Vice Chancellor; Prof. Anju Suri, Dean College Development Council; Prof. Y.P. Verma, Registrar; Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Prof. S. K. Kansal and Prof. Prashant Gautam were among the other attendees. Several trees and plants including peepal, barghad, ficus, chandni etc. were planted on the occasion.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of Horticulture Division in organising such plantations and wished them success in their future initiatives. Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (H) apprised those present that this is one of the many initiatives taken by the Horticulture Division to make the campus greener and the division is very much committed in its goal of keeping the campus clean and green.

Meanwhile Kasturba Hall, Girls Hostel – 4 of Panjab University, Chandigarh, celebrated World Environment Day and World Bicycle .The residents of the hostel, led by the warden, Dr. Tammanna R. Sahrawat, went on a cycle rally, starting from the grounds of Kasturba Hall, across the university and through sector – 15, at 6:00 am in the morning.

The occasion was also graced by the presence of Sh. Satya Pal Jain ji, former MP, Addl Solicitor General of India and Senator PU. The motto for the rally was, “Get on your bike, for a green ride”, expressing the much-needed concern required for environmental issues and climate change. The rally culminated with the participants returning back to Kasturba Hall, where they were served with refreshments.
