PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED AT SRIGANGANAGAR RAILWAY STATION

The Child Helpline team of District Child Protection Unit Sriganganagar has been organizing public awareness programmes at different places for the past fortnight on prevention of child beggary and child marriage. Under this, a public awareness program was held at the railway station today in which visitors and passengers were made aware.

Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma said that child marriages are more likely to take place on Akshaya Tritiya and Peepal Purnima. In compliance with the orders of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav, continuous public awareness programs are being organized to prevent child marriage.

Renu Khairwa, Assistant Director, Department of Child Rights, appealed to the general public to decorate the dreams of children and not get them married. “The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 has been enacted to prevent child marriage, which is punishable with imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of one lakh rupees or both, parents, religious leaders, relatives, tent wala, halwai involved in such marriages are all criminals, if you get any information about child marriage in your knowledge, you can inform the toll-free number 1098 of the Child Helpline. The identity of the informant will be kept confidential”, she said
