Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

On behalf of the District Child Protection Unit, the Child Helpline team organized a public awareness program at the Government District Hospital, Sriganganagar. The visitors and travellers were made aware about the prevention of child begging and child marriage.

Renu Khairwa, Assistant Director of the Child Empowerment Department, said that in compliance with the orders of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav regarding the possibility of child marriage, public awareness programs are being organized continuously to prevent it.

Renu Khairwa has appealed to the common people to fulfill the dreams of their children and not force them into child marriage. It is a legal offense to marry a boy below 21 years of age and a girl below 18 years of age. Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 is a law to stop child marriage. Offenders can be punished with imprisonment up to 2 years or a fine of Rs 1 lakh or both. Parents, religious teachers, relatives, tent owners, confectioners, all involved in such marriages are criminals.
