JOURNALISTS EXHORTED TO BE “CARRIERS OF LIGHT, NOT JUST NEWS

Delivering the Valedictory Address at the National Media Conference & Retreat, Chief Guest K. Sreenivas Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana Media Academy, highlighted the immense power of the press. Calling the media, the “mirror and moulder of society,” he noted that a single headline can ignite division or inspire unity. He urged journalists to be “carriers of light, not just news,” and challenged every editor to pause and ask, “Will this create peace?” before publishing. Advocating for “peace journalism,” he called for truth to be told without sensationalism, highlighting human resilience and solutions.

To formalize this commitment, B.K. Sarala, Vice-Chairperson of the Media Wing, presented the official Action Plan, which was passed unanimously, mandating seven core directives for the fraternity.

Dr. D.D. Mittal, Editor-in-Chief of Shrimat Express, reminded the audience that the “fourth pillar” wields the platform that influences the consciousness of society, stressing that the media exists to bring global peace, not simply to chase ratings. Anubhav Mathur, Associate Professor at Times School of Media, criticized the modern manipulation of emotions and the normalization of violence—even in children’s animations—urging gatekeepers to constantly evaluate whether their content benefits or harms society.

B.K. Dr. Mruthyunjaya, Addl Secretary General, emphasized that the desire for peace is universal and declared that spreading falsehood is a sin.
