THIS LITTLE GIRL HELPS HER RAG-PICKER FATHER

While the government makes continuous efforts to bring children into the educational mainstream and curb child labor, the harsh reality of society remains visible on the streets. A poignant scene witnessed in the city this morning gave every sensitive person pause for thought.

The photo shows a little girl pushing a garbage-laden cart from behind to assist her father. Reportedly, the father sustains his family by collecting plastic and other scrap materials from various parts of the city. Due to financial hardship, the innocent child is compelled to become a support system for her father at such a tender age.

At an age meant for play and schooling, this girl was seen struggling on the streets alongside her father. This scene raises questions about the many claims made regarding a bright future for children and the right to education. The image clearly illustrates how poverty continues to rob many children of their childhood, forcing them to shoulder the burden of responsibilities prematurely.

Social activists argue that such families should be identified and connected to government schemes so that the children can access education and a better future. This image tells the story not just of one family, but of the reality faced by thousands of families whose children’s childhoods are lost amidst piles of garbage and the daily struggle for survival.
