Farmers belonging to Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) on Tuesday sowed paddy on a disputed stretch of land in front of the Ferozeshah Toll Plaza, claiming that the land belongs to them and that they had not been compensated for it.
Gursewak Singh of Ferozeshah village alleged that during land acquisition for the National Highway project in 2019, an additional 3 kanal 12 marla of land belonging to him and his brother Satnam Singh was occupied without compensation. He claimed that a subsequent demarcation supported their contention regarding the excess land.
Stating that he had been pursuing the matter for the past eight years without any resolution, Gursewak said the paddy was sown as a mark of protest. He warned that if the issue remained unresolved, he would cultivate the entire disputed land.
The farmer also alleged that despite repeated representations and meetings with officials, no concrete action had been taken. Senior civil and police officials later reached the spot and held discussions with the protesting farmers.
