SUCCESSFUL REHABILITATION OF A PARROT CHICK THAT FELL FROM ITS NEST

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

A beautiful example of community awareness, NGO, and government department coordination has emerged. A parrot chick that fell from its nest has been successfully rehabilitated and released into its natural habitat in the forest of Tiger Safari, Ludhiana.

About two months ago, Dr. Sandeep Kumar Jain, President of the People for Animals Ludhiana was informed by Vipin Jain that he had found a parrot chick that had fallen from its nest and had not yet grown its feathers. His daughter-in-law, Meenakshi Jain, had given it water and placed it on a soft surface. Dr. Jain guided Meenakshi on the proper diet and care for the newborn chick. With regular care, its feathers grew in about a month, and it began to take regular food.

On Dr. Jain’s suggestion, Meenakshi and her husband took the parrot to Range Officer Narendra Singh of the Wildlife Department. Before its release, a plan was made to keep it in a suitable environment for a few days so that it could understand the sounds of other parrots and the forest atmosphere. Meenakshi released the parrot at Tiger Safari, Ludhiana. After looking around for a while, it flew up and perched on trees in the forest, beginning to roam in its natural environment. This shows that with timely help and scientific rehabilitation, wild animals can get a second life. We are grateful for the compassion of the Jain family and the cooperation of the Wildlife Department.
