TISHA GROUP WINS FIRST PRIZE IN SATTVIC DIET PLATTER-MAKING COMPETITION

Students at the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Panchkula, showcased the principles of healthy living through nutritious and pure Sattvic Diet “Annam” Platters. Using commonly available ingredients from household kitchens, participants prepared a variety of delicious dishes inspired by Ayurvedic principles, which are considered beneficial during changing seasonal conditions. Students as well as staff members enthusiastically participated in the Sattvic Diet Platter-Making Competition, with the Tisha Group securing the first position through its outstanding presentation.
The competition was organized under the guidance of Professor (Dr.) Sanjeev Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the National Institute of Ayurveda, and Professor Gulab Chand Pamnani, Dean, under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, as part of the celebrations leading up to the International Day of Yoga. The event aimed to raise awareness among young people about the importance of healthy eating habits and the adverse effects of fast food. The competition was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Professors Dr. Akanksha Rana and Dr. Garima Gupta.
The platters prepared during the competition included commonly used household ingredients such as lentils, millets, green vegetables, seasonal fruits, salads, sprouted grains, and traditional Indian dishes. These foods are considered beneficial for strengthening immunity and maintaining overall health.
The judging panel comprised Dr. Garima Gupta (Department of Shalakya Tantra), Dr. Akanksha (Department of Rachana Sharir), Dr. Samit Masand (Department of Ras Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana), and Dr. Ritesh (Department of Kriya Sharir). The judges evaluated the taste, nutritional value, and seasonal relevance of the dishes and also interacted with participants to understand the health benefits of their preparations. Based on these criteria, the winners were selected. The Tisha Group won the first prize, while Anushka Group and Swati jointly secured the second position.
Professor Satish Gandharv, Dean In-Charge, praised the initiative and stated that such activities serve as an effective medium for spreading the core message of Yoga and Ayurveda among the masses. He emphasized that Yoga and a balanced diet complement each other and that healthy eating is as important as regular yoga practice for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Professor Prahlad Raghu highlighted that Ayurveda considers food equivalent to medicine and regards pure, fresh, and balanced nutrition as the foundation of a healthy life. He noted that a Sattvic diet not only provides essential nutrients but also helps maintain mental calmness, stability, and positivity.
Dr. Samit Masand, Chairman of the Yoga Committee and Assistant Professor, pointed out that modern lifestyles, increasing work pressures, and the growing dependence on fast food have led to numerous health challenges. He stressed the need to make young people aware of traditional Indian dietary practices and Ayurveda-based nutrition.
Competition coordinators Dr. Akanksha Rana and Dr. Garima Gupta appreciated the enthusiasm shown by students and staff and encouraged everyone to make Ayurveda and Sattvic food an integral part of their daily lives.
Assistant Professor Dr. Ritesh stated that such events play a significant role in connecting the younger generation with India’s traditional knowledge systems, Ayurvedic lifestyle practices, and the vision of a healthier India.
