In view of the onset of the monsoon and the weather department’s forecast of heavy rainfall in the coming days, Panchkula Police has taken a major step to ensure public safety. DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, with immediate effect. The order will remain in force across the entire district till 28 August 2026. Its main objective is to protect lives and property from flash floods, strong water currents and dangerous whirlpools.
As per the order issued by the DCP, entry near the banks of all natural and man-made rivers, drains, tributaries and dams within the geographical limits of Panchkula district, including the Ghaggar, Kaushalya and Tangri rivers, is strictly prohibited for everyone, including adults and children. People often visit these places to make reels, enjoy sightseeing or for recreation, but such activities are now completely banned. Entering riverbeds, dry riverbeds or water bodies for any personal, social, religious or political activity is also strictly prohibited. Only government officials engaged in flood relief and official duties are exempted from this order.
DCP Srishti Gupta said that 13 highly sensitive and flood-prone locations have been identified for special monitoring. These include the Ghaggar Bridge near Shani Mandir in Sector 21, both sides of the Ghaggar Bridge at Majri Chowk, Burj Kotian, Diwanwala, Chandi, Thapli, Balu Thapli, Barun and Chamla villages along the Ghaggar River. Other identified locations include the Tangri River near Barwala Bridge, Khetparali village, the Tangri River near Morni T-Point at Raipur Rani, and both sides of the Mallah Bridge on the Kaushalya River. ACPs and SHOs concerned have been directed to conduct regular patrolling and ensure strict enforcement of the order.
The police administration has warned that anyone found violating this order will face strict legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Citizens are requested to stay indoors during bad weather and avoid visiting rivers, drains and other water bodies for their own safety.
