The police have busted a notorious gang of burglars from Punjab, solving a major burglary case that occurred in February at a house in the village of Sanwatsar, Sriganganagar. Four members of the gang have been apprehended.

Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar Yadav said that four individuals were arrested for the major burglary committed at the home of Amit Chhaba in Sanwatsar. They were identified as Charal (alias Daler, Buta Nath, Bati Nath, or Raja) from Muradpur; Shambhu (alias Jawar Jogi) from Tarn Taran; Kali Ram (alias Barantu) from Rama Mandi, Jalandhar; and Ajay (alias Akshay) from Ferozepur.

Unidentified individuals had stolen gold jewelry weighing approximately 22–23 tolas and Rs 2 lakh in cash from Amit Chhaba’s house. A police team was formed under the supervision of DSP Pushpendra Singh to identify the perpetrators. The team analysed footage from around 500 CCTV cameras and cameras installed at 50 toll plazas. To track down the culprits, team members visited various cities across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana, in addition to Rajasthan, eventually uncovering leads.

Intense interrogation of the four arrested accused revealed that they operate as itinerant vendors, selling clothes and utensils in villages. While making their rounds, they identify target houses and subsequently carry out burglaries at night by entering the premises barefoot. A vehicle used in the crime has been seized. The SP noted that Daler and Shambhu each have seven prior criminal cases registered against them, while Kali Ram has five and Ajay has six.
