Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the party would launch a mass agitation to protect the farmers and their land from the fresh land grab being planned by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the name of a “revised” land pooling policy.
The SAD president said “it is shocking that the State cabinet has passed the same old land pooling policy after making a negligible amendment. Farmers are now being offered an additional ten yards of developed land vis a vis the old policy. This amounts to serving old wine in a new bottle as farmers will not gain anything substantial”.
Asserting that all this was a fresh attempt to rob farmers of their land, Badal said “with elections around the corner, Kejriwal & Co were under immense pressure to reward their political funders and cronies, with whom they have signed illegal deals last year. This is why a new policy has been launched despite widespread resentment against the government takeover of farming land in the State”.
He said that the SAD had earlier foiled the government’s bid to acquire 65,000 acres of land by leading a massive State wide agitation against the same, Badal said “now again we will force this anti – farmer government to withdraw its revised policy to ensure the interests of farmers are not sacrificed.
