DESCRIBING ABOHAR MAYOR ELECTION “FARCE” MLA AND BJP COUNCILLORS STOP DC’S VEHICLE

Abohar (Face2News)

The meeting convened to elect the Mayor today was followed by strong protest by MLA Sandeep Jakhar and BJP Councillors who did not allow Deputy Commissioner’s vehicle to leave the Municipal Corporation premises. No official announcement of Abohar Mayor was made but AAP Halqa Incharge Arun Narang claimed that his party’s councillors had won all the top posts in show of hands. This was refuted by BJP who had won 28 out of 50 seats in the elections held on May 26.

The Municipal Corporation was transformed into a police cantonment, barricades were erected on three roads to prevent entry of private individuals, and the media was not allowed to move in.

Witnesses said that the driver of DC’s vehicle tried to forcefully move the vehicle but failed. The police used force to disperse the protesters during which two councillors sustained minor injuries.

Former BJP Punjab chief Sunil Jakhar also reached the spot and accused the AAP government of bullying. Sunil Jakhar held a meeting with DC and Ferozepur and asked the officials as to how an AAP candidate became the mayor when BJP had 28 councillors and MLA too had a right to vote. He asked the officials how this oppression happened. This will not be tolerated at all, he said.

Hundreds of BJP workers were present in and around the MC premises till filing of this news, a stalemate continued.
