Congress councillor Ashok Sachdeva was elected President of the Ferozepur Municipal Council during High Court-monitored proceedings held on Thursday. Bohar Singh was elected Senior Vice-President, while Mani Khokhar was chosen as Vice-President.

The election was conducted under the supervision of SDM Abhishek Sharma and a court-appointed observer following directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The process had remained pending since the Municipal Council election results were declared on May 29.

The proceedings witnessed initial delays as councillors from BJP, AAP and Independent groups arrived late. However, all members eventually reached the venue before voting commenced. Senior Advocate Nikhil Goyal, appointed as observer by the High Court, monitored the process.

Drama unfolded before the election when Congress councillor Prem Rani announced support for AAP, but the move did not affect the outcome as Congress secured the top post.

Heavy police deployment remained in place throughout the proceedings. After his election, Sachdeva thanked councillors for their support and pledged to work for the city’s development. Former MLA Parminder Singh Pinky said the completion of the election process would help accelerate development works in Ferozepur.
