The Vishwa Jain Sangathan has, in a memorandum mailed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has demanded closure of slaughter houses and ban on sale of non-veg food on the festival of Samvatsari that is to be commemorated on 15th September.
Dr. Sandeep Kumar Jain, State coordinator, Vishwa Jain Sangthan, said that Jains are a Religious Minority and observing their religious festivals Paryushans (08-09-2026 to 14.09.2026) followed by Samvatsri on 15.09.2026. They fast during this period and Observe Samvatsari as Forgiveness Day.
The Punjab Govt has very kindly declared Samvatsari as restricted leave in the state. We Demand Closure of slaughter houses and sale of Non-Veg Food, Fish eggs etc on Samvatsari. Many State Governments have been issuing orders to this effect.
Dr Jai said, keeping religious sentiments of Jain Community, kindly issue instructions for closure of Slaughterhouses and sale of Non-Veg Food on this sacred occasion on 15.09.2026.
