Face2News/Mumbai

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed second supplementary chargesheet today, i.e., 21.08.2026, in the Reliance Communications Limited (RCom) case before the Hon’ble Special Judge for CBI Cases, Mumbai, against Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, Group Managing Director of the Reliance ADA Group, for offences of criminal conspiracy, criminal misappropriation and cheating.

The supplementary chargesheet is based on the investigation conducted by the CBI, which has revealed that Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, who enjoyed pivotal position in the group acted in pursuance of the criminal conspiracy to cheat State Bank of India to dishonestly and fraudulently avail a Term Loan of Rs. 1200 Crore for Reliance Communications Limited and Reliance Infratel Limited. These companies did not repay the loans, causing wrongful loss of around Rs. 971.25 Crore to the bank.

It may be recalled that the CBI had registered the case on the complaint received from the State Bank of India. As per the FIR, the total exposure of the Indian Public Sector Banks and Financial Institutions in the case is Rs. 19,694.33 crore. The CBI had earlier filed the first chargesheet on 29.05.2026 against 16 accused persons, including M/s Reliance Communications Limited, five senior executives of the company and ten bank officials. Subsequently, a Supplementary Charge sheet against 3 more accused persons viz. M/s. Netizen Engineering P Limited and its Directors Anil Jamna Kalya and Tunu Sahu was filed. With the second supplementary charge sheet filed against Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, a total of 20 accused persons have been charge-sheeted in this case.

Further investigation against other accused persons and other aspects of the case continues.

It may also be recalled that the CBI has registered eight FIRs against Reliance Communications Limited (RCom), Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL), Reliance Commercial Finance Limited (RCFL) and Reliance Telecom Limited (RTL) on the complaints received from various Public Sector Banks, LIC and EPFO.

The CBI has, so far, arrested seven accused persons in the Reliance ADA Group cases. All the accused persons are presently in Judicial Custody.

The investigation in these cases is being monitored by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The CBI remains committed to conducting an expeditious and comprehensive investigation into these cases.
