In an effort to promote road safety awareness among students and youth, the Chandigarh Traffic Police, in collaboration with SIP Abacus Academy, organized a Road Safety Awareness Programme for School Students at Chitkara International School, Sector-25, Chandigarh. The programme was organized under the leadership of Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, Director General of Police, UT Chandigarh, and the guidance of Sh. Pushpendra Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (Security & Traffic), and under the close supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DANIPS, DSP/Traffic (R&D), Road Safety and Dr. Parvesh Sharma, CPS, DSP/Traffic,CTP,
Chandigarh Traffic Police Awareness Team in collaboration with SIP Abacus Team, conducted Round-II of the Painting Competition on the theme of Road Safety, along with a Road Safety Awareness Session. Students in the 6–12 years age group from St. Joseph School, Sector-44, Chandigarh, Ryan International School, Sector-49D, SD Public School, Sector-32, Moti Ram Arya Sr. Sec. School, Sector-27, Chandigarh, participated in the programme. The event was successfully conducted with the support of Mr. Jagdeep Singh, State Head; Ms. Kamalpreet Kaur, Franchisee Partner; and Mr. Rajan Kumar, Business Development Officer, SIP Abacus Academy, Chandigarh.
A total of 600 participants, including students and parents, attended the programme. The parents appreciated the initiative and emphasized the importance of inculcating road safety awareness and civic responsibility among young citizens.
SI Roshni Devi, In-charge, Children Traffic Park, along with her dedicated team, conducted an interactive awareness sessions covering important provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, amendments effective from 1st September 2019, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and the Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations, 2017. During the awareness sessions, students were sensitized about the importance of road safety and responsible road-user behaviour. They were educated on various crucial aspects of road safety, emergency response measures, and the provisions of the Good Samaritan Law.
Besides the above programme, a Road Safety and Anti-Drug Awareness Session was also conducted at Government Model High School, RC-II, Maloya, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the team of PS-ANTF, on 20 August 2026. The PS-ANTF team sensitized students about the harmful effects of drugs and substance abuse.
The students were educated about the importance of wearing ISI-certified helmets and seat belts, adhering to speed limits and traffic signals, maintaining lane discipline, ensuring pedestrian safety, giving way to emergency vehicles, avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving, and using standard protective gear. They were also sensitized to the risks of road accidents caused by negligence, over speeding, distracted driving, and non-compliance with traffic rules. Chandigarh Traffic Police urged the students to become responsible road users and ambassadors of road safety, and to encourage their families and peers to follow traffic rules.
At the conclusion of the programme, a Road Safety Pledge was administered to all participants, educating them to strictly follow traffic rules and contribute towards making “City Beautiful” a Zero-Death Rate City in Road Accidents.
