Five persons, including three women, have been booked for allegedly assaulting a police and Excise Department team during a checking operation following information about the preparation of lahan in Kutabgarh Bhatta village of Guruharsahai.

The incident took place on August 19, while an FIR (No. 229) was registered on August 23. Head Constable Mandeep Singh, along with police personnel Jagseer Singh and Excise Inspector Gurpreet Singh, had reached the village to verify the information.

According to the police, the team found Harmesh Singh near a drum outside a house. When officials moved to check the drum, he allegedly called his family members, identified as Soma Rani, Praveen Kaur, Baljeet Singh and Shakku Singh. The five allegedly entered into an argument with the officials and attacked them. During the scuffle, Mandeep Singh’s uniform was allegedly torn and his nameplate damaged.

The accused allegedly helped Harmesh Singh flee and prevented the team from checking the drum before fleeing the spot themselves.

The accused have been booked under Sections 132, 221, 351(2), 190, 191(3) and 121(1) of the BNS (FIR No. 229)

Investigating Officer ASI Rakesh Kumar said the case was registered on the statement of Mandeep Singh and raids were being conducted to arrest the accused.
