LUDHIANA MAN, ACCOMPLICES HELD FOR ASSAULT ON SRIGANGANAGAR ADVOCATE

The Sriganganagar police today claimed to have solved the case of a serious attack on Rajesh Grewal, former Joint Secretary of the Sriganganagar Bar Association.

According to the police, the attack was the result of a conspiracy hatched over a long-standing land dispute, for which the assailants were paid a contract sum of Rs 5 lakh. Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar said that three individuals, including the prime accused, have been arrested in connection with the case; one accused remains at large, and a search is underway for others involved in the conspiracy.

On the evening of August 21, around 8:00 PM, when Rajesh Grewal was leaving for home after closing his office, four unidentified individuals attacked him using iron rods, sticks, and sharp-edged weapons. While threatening to kill him, the assailants warned him to settle the property dispute with a person, stating that otherwise, he would not be spared next time. The incident was captured on CCTV. Grewal was admitted to the hospital, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the BNS based on his statement.

A special team was formed under the supervision of Additional SP Deepak Kumar Sharma and City Circle Officer Vishnu Khatri, and under the direction of Jawahar Nagar SHO Dinesh Saran. Based on technical investigation and information from an informant, the police arrested Gurlabh Singh alias Garry—a resident of Kaunke Khosa, Jagraon, Ludhiana—identifying him the “prime accused”. Along with him, Rajinder Singh alias Commander (from Ellenabad) and Aman Singh (from Kalibanga) were also arrested. According to the police, the complainant, advocate Rajesh Grewal, had a long-standing land dispute with Kartar Singh. A plan was allegedly hatched regarding this dispute. Garry was allegedly “hired” for Rs 5 lakh to carry out the attack.
