IF GDP IS ROBUST, WHY TELL PEOPLE BE FRUGAL, WARRING ASKS PM, SAYS, GDP GROWTH DOES NOT REFLECT ON GROUND

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that the 7.8 percent GDP growth was no consolation for crores of Indians who were still finding it difficult to make both ends meet.“There is no point in celebrating the GDP statistics when these do not help people on the ground”, he said, while pointing out that the common man was still facing the backbreaking inflation and widespread unemployment.

The PCC president asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi that when the GDP was so “impressive”, why was he asking people again and again to be frugal like telling them not to buy gold or avoid going abroad.
He said that the GDP figures may make good headlines and create a fake “feel good” optics, for the common man the life remains as difficult as it has been during the last 12 years. He said, the essential commodities needed for day to day survival are beyond common man’s reach.

The PCC president cited the examples of the petroleum products like petrol, diesel, LPG, whose prices have continuously been rising, even when these went down substantially in the international market before the US-Iran War. “Let the common man also have a feel of what does the 7.8 percent GDP mean to him”, he told the Prime Minister, urging him to slash the prices of the petroleum products, which affect every Indian, directly or indirectly.
