FAZILKA RESIDENTS RECALL HORROR OF SEPTEMBER 6, 1965

Recalling the story of Pakistan attacking India on the evening of 6 September 1965, locals get Goose bumps.

Sharing the day of the forced war, social worker Liladhar Sharma said that he was playing with his friends on the roof of Sunder Ashram when a Pakistani airplane passed over Fazilka city in the evening. Immediately after that, the sound of cannon and tank shells was heard from the Pakistan border.

He recalls that people closed their shops and ran towards their homes and started taking their families to safe places. At that time there were less vehicles, so people started traveling on bicycles, horses, camel-carts and tractor-trolleys, many also escaped on foot.

According to Sharma, Fazilka wore a deserted look for almost two months, only a few families lived here. During the war, Lal Bahadur Shastri, who was the Prime Minister of India at that time, had come to the India-Pakistan border to encourage the army soldiers.
