A man was shot dead allegedly over an old land dispute in village Daska near lehragaga in Sangrur district , police said.
The incident took place at Dashmesh Nagar Kothe Daska, falling under the Lehra police station area.Station House Officer (SHO) Jaskaran Singh said the accused, identified as Buta Singh, allegedly opened fire at Prakash Singh with his licensed 12-bore rifle, killing him on the spot.
Following the incident, Buta Singh reached the Lehra police station and surrendered before the police, the SHO said.
The deceased was identified as Prakash Singh, son of Nek Singh and a resident of Bahadurpur village in neighbouring Mansa district.
According to the police, Prakash Singh and Buta Singh had been involved in a longstanding dispute over a piece of land, which had resulted in old enmity between them. Police said the accused allegedly shot Prakash Singh dead due to this rivalry. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The accused was produced before a court and subsequently sent to jail, police said.
