WATER SUPPLY SCHEME “INAUGURATED” BY CM IN 2024, MACHINERY AWAITS INSTALLATION

MLA Sandeep Jakhar has said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, during inauguration of Rs 27.06 crore rupees water supply project on December 5, 2024 had claimed that this will cater 100 percent population of Abohar city in the first phase. But till date machinery was lying in the open and was yet to be installed. That was the maiden urban project that Mann inaugurated at Abohar in the past 4.5 years, the MLA said.

During a visit to the new water works located on Hanumangarh Road here, the MLA announced that a Rs 7 crore water supply project is set to launch to strengthen Abohar’s drinking water system under the Central Government’s AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

Mayor Pooja Wadhwa, Senior Deputy Mayor Dharamvir Malkat, Deputy Mayor Deepak Chhapola accompanied the MLA.

Jakhar said that Abohar has received a significant water supply project that will help meet the city’s future drinking water needs. Under this project, pipelines measuring approximately 3.5 km (500 mm/20-inch diameter) and 1 km (200 mm/8-inch diameter) will be laid. Areas expected to benefit include Rajiv Nagar, Shiv Shakti Nagar, Metro Colony, Chandigarh Mohalla, Balaji Colony and Tara Estate.

He said that 15 to 20 feet of silt accumulated in the water works ponds, compromising water storage capacity. With the Central Government’s support, de-silting of these ponds is now commencing, which will increase storage capacity. This was crucial when the canal remained closed for 10–15 days and the city’s water supply is at risk of disruption.
