BJP’S KHATOON TAK ELECTED NOHAR MC CHIEF BY LOTTERY SLIP

In the Nohar Municipality of Hanumangarh district, the decision for the post of Chairperson was made via a lottery draw after the votes resulted in a tie. The draw was necessitated after both Khatoon Tak and Congress’s Sumit Chachan secured 20 votes each; a minor girl drew the slip, which turned out to be in Khatoon’s favour. In this election, the Congress had won in 20 wards, BJP in two only but the BJP succeeded in securing the support of 18 independent councillors. Khatoon is the mother-in-law of Mehrunnisa Tak, a former Municipal Chief and Chairperson of the Rajasthan Madrasa Board.

In Suratgarh Municipality, BJP candidate Jyoti Kanwar was declared the winner by a margin of just one vote. Jyoti Kanwar received 23 votes, whereas Congress’s Parmeshwari Godara secured 22 votes. Both Congress and BJP had won in 16 wards each; however, the BJP succeeded in garnering the support of seven independent councillors.

In the Sriganganagar Municipal Council election, BJP’s official candidate and former Deputy Chairperson Ajay Dawra (Lucky Dawra)—whose party had fallen three seats short of a majority—defeated Sanjay Mundra, a party rebel who had contested as an independent, by a single vote. Dawra received 33 votes, while Mundra received 32.

In the election for the Anoopgarh Municipal Chairperson, only seven BJP councillors had won compared to 16 Congress councillors; 12 independent councillors were elected. The BJP succeeded in bringing all the independent councillors to its side. BJP’s Nikhila Chhabra secured 20 votes, while Congress’s Suman Chugh received 15.

In Peelibanga, BJP’s Arvind Joshi was elected Municipal Council Chairperson, securing 19 votes against the 16 votes received by Congress’s Purushottam Das.

In the Gajsinghpur Municipality, Congress’s Sandeep Periwal was elected Chairperson by receiving 14 votes, while BJP’s Asha Rani Kathpal secured six.

In the election for the post of Chairperson of the Kesrisinghpur Municipality, Congress’s Aakanksha was elected; she received 15 votes compared to the 5 votes secured by Taravanti (BJP).

Congress’s Neelam Saharan was once again elected Chairperson of the Rawatsar Municipality; she has previously held this position twice. The town celebrated her win with spectacular “Atishbazi”. EOM

In the Hanumangarh Municipal Council elections, candidates supported by independent MLA Ganesh Raj Bansal won 34 out of the 60 wards. Manju Rinwa, from the Bansal faction, was elected Chairperson, securing 39 votes.
