The General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, Incharge Uttarakhand, Sirsa MP, Former Union Minister and Congress Working Committee Member Kumari Selja has launched a sharp attack on the BJP government over the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Speaking to journalists during a Congress protest in Uttarakhand, Kumari Selja said that when the parents of a daughter were running from pillar to post seeking justice, it was the government’s responsibility to ensure justice rather than suppress their voices.
Kumari Selja alleged that Ankita’s parents were seeking justice for their daughter and that the people of Uttarakhand and the hill region stood firmly with them. However, instead of delivering justice, the government was taking action against the victim’s family. She said the alleged forcible removal of Ankita’s parents exposed the BJP government’s insensitive approach.
Kumari Selja questioned the government’s intention behind appointing to the constitutional post of governor a person whose name was reportedly being linked to the case and whose role, she said, was being sought to be investigated by the CBI. She asked whether the BJP government was afraid of an impartial investigation. The Congress, she said, demanded an independent and fair investigation into all allegations related to the case and insisted that no person found guilty should be spared.
She alleged that the BJP government was misusing its power to protect influential people while harassing those seeking justice. She said this was a matter of concern for democracy and the justice system.
Kumari Selja said Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, MP Priyanka Gandhi and other party leaders had met Ankita’s parents and expressed solidarity with the family. The Congress would continue its struggle to secure justice for Ankita and every victimised daughter in Uttarakhand. She said the party would continue to raise its voice until justice was delivered.
