The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested two alleged drug smugglers and seized 14.965 kg of heroin packed in 30 packets from their possession in the Guru Har Sahai area.

AIG ANTF Gurinderbir Singh said a trap was laid near Rauke Hithar village following specific inputs, leading to the arrest of Simon Singh alias Saimal and Harbhajan Singh alias Babbu, both residents of Chhanga Rai Hithar village. The accused were travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number PB 05 AW 0953 when they were apprehended.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the ANTF police station in SAS Nagar (FIR No. 249), the AIG said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly using the motorcycle for local transportation and delivery of the heroin consignment.

The AIG said the investigation was underway to trace the source of the contraband, financial transactions, suspected hawala channels and the recipients of the consignment. Further arrests are expected as the police establish backward and forward linkages in the network, he added.
