The Sirsa MP, Former Union Cabinet Minister, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, CWC member Kumari Selja said protecting citizens’ votes was a constitutional right. Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, the Congress was fighting for voting rights, electoral transparency and democratic values. Lakhs of people from Haryana, Uttarakhand and across the country are expected to attend the November 1 rally at Delhi’s historic Ramlila Maidan.
Kumari Selja said BJP policies were contrary to democratic traditions, alleging that the government feared the Opposition and was attempting to suppress political dissent. She said the Opposition had every right to question government policies and raise public concerns. She said Rahul Gandhi had raised serious questions about electoral fairness and alleged vote theft, which required impartial and transparent answers. Public confidence in the electoral system was essential for a strong democracy. The Congress’s struggle, she said, was for the Constitution, independent democratic institutions and every citizen’s right to vote, not against any particular individual. Kumari Selja alleged that the BJP pursued divisive politics and urged the government to address unemployment, inflation, farmers’ problems and the impartial functioning of democratic institutions rather than diverting attention from public concerns.
She said the November 1 rally would raise national-level issues concerning electoral transparency, voters’ rights and the democratic role of the Opposition. Large public participation would demonstrate people’s awareness of their democratic rights. Kumari Selja reaffirmed the Congress’s commitment to protecting constitutional rights and democratic institutions, expressing confidence that the rally would strongly highlight concerns relating to democracy, the Constitution and voting rights.
