Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Anil Vij said that the Azadi ki Pehli Ladai ka Shaheed Samrak was inaugurated by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Sh. Amit Shah, on November 5, 2026. He informed that the memorial will be opened to the general public from November 15, 2026, and visitors will be allowed free entry for one month, with a limit of 500 visitors per day.

Sh. Vij said that members of the public will be able to book tickets for visiting the memorial between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. He informed that, on the directions of Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, entry to the memorial will remain free for one month, during which only 500 visitors will be allowed per day.

He further clarified that even visitors availing free entry will have to book their tickets. Tickets can be booked online by visiting ambalawarmemorial.com. In addition, arrangements have also been made for ticket booking at the memorial premises.

He said that the First War of Independence began in Ambala Cantonment on May 10, 1857, 28 years before the formation of the Indian National Congress. He said that the uprising began nine hours before the freedom struggle in Meerut. It was an armed struggle that spread across the country.

He recalled the brutal atrocities committed by the Britishers, including tying freedom fighters to trees and shooting them, crushing them under oil mills, and burning entire villages.

Sh. Vij said that thousands of such martyrs never received the place and recognition they deserved in the history. To honour these unsung heroes and give them their rightful place in history, the Martyrs’ Memorial has been constructed in Ambala Cantonment. The memorial was inaugurated by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Sh. Amit Shah, on November 5, 2026.
