PFB PUNJAB HOLDS MEETING TO START BRAILLE BOOK BANK, CELEBRATE WORLD DISABILITY DAY IN FEROZEPUR

On Sunday, the meeting of Progressive Federation for the Blind, Punjab Unit was held at Home for the Blind, Makhu Gate, Ferozepur City to plan to start a Braille Book Bank and celebrate World Disability Day. Braille is a language of 6-raised dot codes that are used worldwide to this day. – a tactile system of reading and writing for the blind – a tactile system of reading and writing for the blind invented by Louis Braille, who was a French Educator.

World Disability Day, also known as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), is celebrated annually on December 3rd to raise awareness of disability issues, promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities, draw attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society, mobilize support for issues related to the inclusion of people with disabilities.

The meeting was presided over by Gopal Vishwakarma President, Mohan Lal Saini, Sr VP, Mrs Krishna Sharma VP, Anil Gupta, Secretary, Members Zuber Ahmed Ansari, Kuldeep Singh and others from all over Punjab besides Harish Kumar Monga, who attended as a sighted member as Chairman Advisory Board.

Apart from the celebration of state-level World Disability Day on December 3, 2024, in Ferozepur and making its arrangements, the various issues of visually impaired persons like the opening of Braille Book Bank, accepting of UDID of disability in railway instead of e-digital card of railway which has to be renewed after every five years, pending promotions in various departments, providing proper infrastructure in the upgraded school from High to Plus Two level students at Govt Blind School at Jamalpur in Ludhiana, allowing the attendant while travelling and accepting of UDID card of blind at All India level etc.

In the end, the President assured all the blind in service to resolve each problem by holding meetings with the heads of the concerned departments one by one. He said we have sought the time from them for holding meetings to present the facts on record and hope to resolve all the issues of the visually impaired persons including in-service in various institutions.
