The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Charanjit Singh, posted at police station Division No 5, Ludhiana city for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,70,000 as he has surrendered to the Bureau after registration of corruption case against him.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said in this regard a case has already been registered against the said police personnel based on a complaint lodged by Kamaljit Ahuja, owner of Hotel Taj, in Jawahar Nagar Camp, near Bus Stand, Ludhiana city at the Chief Minister's anti corruption action line.

He further added that the complainant has alleged in his online complaint that said ASI had obtained illegal gratification under threat from him for adding sections 307, 379-B IPC against his family members in a case already registered at the said police station against them and are demanding more bribe money from him.

The spokesperson added that during verification the allegations levelled in the complaint have been found correct as the same have been supported by oral evidence as well as recording of conversation taken place between complainant and suspect ASI Charanjit Singh. He further added that as per this enquiry, prima facie, it was proved that bribe money of Rs 2,70,000 had been taken by ASI Charanjit Singh in the name of SHO of this police station and had also demanded bribe of Rs 2 lakh per month for allowing the complainant to run his hotel smoothly.

He informed that on the basis of this investigation report a case under prevention of corruption act has already been registered against the said ASI Charanjit Singh at VB police station Ludhiana range. He added that role of concerned SHO and any other officials would also be examined during the investigation.
