The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested an ex-serviceman, Jasbir Singh, of village New Satiyawala in Ferozepur district, for duping two girls by posing as an inspector in the Bureau who had accepted Rs 4,25,000 to get them jobs in the Punjab police.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said that this case has been registered against the aforementioned private individual based on an online complaint lodged by Jarnail Singh of village Gundar Panjgarain, tehsil Guru Harsahai in Ferozepur, on the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line portal.

He further added that the complainant stated in his complaint that he is a farmer with five daughters and a son. His two daughters had applied for jobs in the Punjab police in 2021. The above-mentioned accused, impersonating an Inspector of the VB, had taken Rs 4,25,000 in installments to get both of them recruited into the police. The complainant further alleged that the accused failed to secure the jobs for his daughters and did not returned the bribe money to him.

The spokesperson informed that the complainant recorded a conversation with the said conman while he was impersonating an inspector and demanding Rs 25,000 from the complainant as part of the bribe, which was handed over to the VB as an evidence.

During the investigation of this complaint, it was proved that the said ex-serviceman had taken bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant for the aforementioned motive. Subsequently, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station, Ferozepur range. The accused has been arrested and would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation into this case was under progress.
