The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a corruption case against Piara Singh, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), posted at Police Post Mandi Ladhuka, under Police Station Fazilka Sadar for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500.
An official spokesperson of the state VB said that the case has been registered against the aforementioned police official (now retired) based on an online complaint lodged by Viru Singh, a resident of Mandi Ladhuka, on the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line portal.
He said that the complainant informed that he had registered a case against another person in the Fazilka Sadar police station and the said police personnel was the investigation officer in this case. The said ASI had allegedly taken Rs 2,500 and Rs 2,000 on different days in February from him in lieu of presenting supplementary chargesheet to the court pertaining to this case. The complainant had recorded the conversation with the ASI while he was demanding the bribe he had submitted it to the VB as evidence.
The VB spokesperson said that during the investigation of the complaint, it surfaced that the said ASI had demanded bribe two times from the complainant for the aforementioned motive. Subsequently, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station, Ferozepur range.
The VB has been conducting raids to arrest the accused.
