JANG-E-AZADI MEMORIAL CASE: ONE MORE SURRENDERED BEFORE VIGILANCE, 16 ACCUSED REMANDED TO CUSTODY FOR 2 DAYS

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a case against 26 accused including a private person for committing fraud in the government funds related to the construction of Jang-e-Azadi Memorial at Kartarpur, Jalandhar.

In this case the VB has arrested 15 officers/employees including a private person. On Thursday, one more accused Paramjit Singh Executive Engineer (Retd.), Public Works Department (B&R) branch-2, Jalandhar, a resident of Bhai Bannoji Nagar, Jalandhar, has surrendered to the Vigilance Bureau Jalandhar range office. He would be produced in the local court tomorrow and further interrogation would be carried on after obtaining remand from the court.

Giving information in this regard, a spokesperson of the VB said during investigation of this case it was found that the funds released by the Punjab Government for the construction of said Jang-e-Azadi Memorial were misappropriated causing loss to the state exchequer to the tune of crores of rupees. In this regard a case no. 9 dated 22.05.2024 under sections 420, 406, 409, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the IPC and section 13(1)A read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station, Jalandhar range.

(SUBHEAD)He further informed that on Thursday all 16 accused, arrested by the VB, including Deepak Singal, owner of M/s Deepak Builders Ludhiana were produced before the CJM court Jalandhar. The Bureau has demanded two days police remand of all the accused for further investigation and the court granted two days police remand of all the 16 accused to the VB.

He further added that the remaining absconding accused including Vinay Bublani, IAS and others would be arrested soon as raids are being conducted at their residences and other locations. Further investigation of this case is under progress.
