VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS SUB INSPECTOR FOR TAKING RS 5000 BRIBE

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Saturday has apprehended Sub Inspector (SI) of Police, Dhanvinder Singh, posted at Police Station village Kambo, under Amritsar rural police district red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Dinesh Sharma, a resident of Chheharta, Amritsar district.

He further informed that the said complainant has approached the VB and informed that he had sold his car to his acquaintance namely Malkit Singh, who has refused to pay sale amount. The complainant further alleged that the said police personnel has been demanding Rs 10,000 for getting his car back from Malkit Singh and had already took Rs 2000 in this regard.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary inquiry about this complaint the VB team lad a trap during which the accused SI was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the police personnel at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress.
