Jakhar family wins prize for best sugarcane for the second consecutive term.

The Jakhar family, which holds a special place in the state's political field, horticulture and agriculture, was awarded the first prize for sugarcane in the Kisan Fair of the year 2024 organized by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

The winner is Sumega Jakhar, daughter of late Surinder Jakhar who had pioneered in cooperative movement and served as the youngest chairman of Asia’s cooperative fertilizer giant. She is the granddaughter of Dr Balram Jakhar (who was the Agriculture Minister of India and honored with the title of Krishi Pandit) and niece of Punjab Pradesh Bhartiya Janata Party President Sunil Jakhar. The prize was received at the fair by Jaiveer Jakhar on behalf of the winner.
