Cyber Crime Police have busted a major cyber fraud case involving cheating of ₹16.30 lakh by luring a citizen with promises of high profits in the share market through WhatsApp. Acting swiftly, the cyber crime police arrested four accused involved in the racket, while efforts are underway to trace other suspects linked to the gang.
According to the complaint filed by a Panchkula resident, in September he was contacted via WhatsApp and was enticed with offers of huge returns from share market investments. The accused later sent a link and persuaded the complainant to download a mobile application. Through this app, the complainant was cheated of a total amount of ₹16.30 lakh in multiple transactions.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered on November 20, 2025, at the Cyber Crime Police Station under Sections 316(2), 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigation was initiated.
Under the supervision of Cyber Police Station In-charge Yudhvir Singh, Investigating Officer Ravinder Kumar arrested the first accused, Arun Kumar, resident of village Dhamtan Sahib, on January 20. He was produced before the Hon’ble Court on January 21 and police remand was obtained.
During interrogation, crucial information led to the arrest of three more accused on January 22 — Mohammad Rashid (resident of Delhi), Mohammad Alam Khan (resident of Delhi) and Jasbir Singh (resident of Punjab).
DCP Crime & Traffic, Manpreet Singh Sudan, said, “Police are dealing with cyber crime cases with utmost seriousness and technical expertise. Citizens are advised to remain cautious of investment offers and profit schemes circulated through WhatsApp or social media, and should avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading unknown apps. Panchkula Police will not spare those involved in cyber fraud and all culprits will be brought to justice at the earliest.”
