In a major boost to Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare sector, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has approved the release of ₹83.85 crore for strengthening health infrastructure across the state.
As part of the initiative, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla will receive a SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) machine and a Cell Separator machine for bone marrow transplantation services. The Chief Minister has sanctioned ₹8 crore for the procurement of these advanced medical devices, which will significantly enhance diagnostic and specialized treatment facilities at the premier healthcare institution.
The SPECT machine will enable advanced three-dimensional imaging of organs and tissues, helping doctors accurately diagnose and assess conditions related to the heart, brain, bones, lungs, kidneys, and certain types of cancer. The Cell Separator machine will facilitate the collection, processing, storage, and transplantation of peripheral blood stem cells, strengthening bone marrow transplant services in the state.
The government has also sanctioned ₹14 crore for the purchase of six state-of-the-art ultrasound machines for IGMC Shimla and for the upgradation of CTL Kandaghat. Additionally, ₹3.50 crore has been approved for two X-ray machines equipped with analog and digital systems, while ₹12 crore has been allocated for the procurement of a 256-slice CT scan machine. These facilities are expected to significantly improve diagnostic efficiency and reduce waiting times for patients.
For Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda (Kangra), the Chief Minister has released ₹6 crore for the purchase of six high-end ultrasound machines. Meanwhile, Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Nerchowk (Mandi) will receive ₹2 crore for the construction of a PET Scan Building, further strengthening advanced diagnostic services in the state.
Beyond medical equipment, the government has approved substantial funding for healthcare infrastructure projects. ₹17.95 crore has been sanctioned for Civil Hospital Jwalamukhi, including water and electricity supply arrangements. ₹4.90 crore has been allocated for residential accommodation for doctors and staff nurses at Civil Hospital Jogindernagar.
In Medical College Jol Sappar, Hamirpur, ₹12 crore has been approved for the development of parking facilities. An additional ₹3.50 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a police station complex, which will also house the SDAMO office. Approval has also been granted for strengthening hospital facilities in Ghumarwin, Bilaspur district.
Chief Minister Sukhu said the state government is committed to providing high-quality healthcare services within Himachal Pradesh so that patients do not have to travel outside the state for advanced treatment. He emphasized that the government is continuously working to strengthen public health infrastructure and ensure that people, especially those living in rural and remote areas, have access to modern, affordable, and quality healthcare facilities close to their homes.
