IN A JOINT OPERATION BY COUNTER INTELLIGENCE AND BSF RECOVERED 44.5 KG HEROIN, 3 KG ICE NEAR INDO-PAK BORDER IN FEROZEPUR

A joint operation by the Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing of Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) has foiled a suspected cross-border drug smuggling attempt with the recovery of 44.5 kg heroin and 3 kg methamphetamine (ICE) from the border area of Gajniwala village in Ferozepur district.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the drug consignment was airdropped by a drone from across the border. Acting on specific intelligence inputs generated by Counter Intelligence regarding drone movement near the Indo-Pakistan border, a joint CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) was launched in the fields of Gajniwala village, located a few metres from the international border.

IGP Counter Intelligence Ashish Choudhary said police teams from Ferozepur immediately shared the inputs with the BSF and launched a joint search operation. “During thorough checking of the surrounding fields, the teams recovered the heroin and ICE consignment”, said IGP

The IGP said that investigations will be done to identify the smugglers who sent the consignment from across the border as well as their Indian associates who were supposed to receive it. “The forward and backward linkages of the network are also being investigated”, he further added.

Meanwhile a case has been registered against unknown persons under Sections 21C and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, under FIR No. 19.
