The ongoing drive against organised crime in the state, launched by CM Punjab and DGP Punjab, achieved a major breakthrough when SAS Nagar Police, in a joint operation with the Anti-Gangster Task Force, Punjab, arrested a key operative of foreign-based gangsters and recovered a .32 calibre pistol along with five live cartridges. His arrest follows the April 18 joint operation of SAS Nagar Police and AGTF, in which a gangster module was busted with the arrest of four accused and recovery of two foreign-made pistols, said Sh. Harmandeep Singh Hans, IPS, SSP, SAS Nagar, here on Friday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ajay, a resident of Mouli Jagran, Chandigarh.

The SSP further stated that preliminary investigation reveals that the accused was acting on the directions of his foreign-based handlers and had been assigned multiple targets across the Tricity. His arrest has successfully averted potentially serious criminal activities in the area, he added.

Divulging operational details, SSP said that during investigation based on forward and backward linkages, following the arrest of four accused along with two foreign-made pistols on April 18, the role of Ajay emerged, as he had delivered the weapons to them and had also provided logistic support on the instructions of his foreign-based handlers. Acting on this information, joint teams of SAS Nagar Police & AGTF, under the supervision of SP Rural Manpreet Singh and SP Dera Bassi Bikramjit Singh Brar, and led by Inspector Sumit Mor (SHO Dera Bassi) and Insp. Pushvinder Singh, successfully traced Ajay and arrested him yesterday from under the Ghaggar bridge, Mubarkpur, Dera Bassi. The accused broke his leg in a failed attempt to flee from custody, he added.

Providing additional insights, SSP said that as per preliminary interrogation, Ajay has been operating on the instructions of foreign handlers for the last one year.

He is being arrested in FIR No. 0162 under Sections 111, 3(5) BNS & 25(6), 25(7)(i) Arms Act, registered earlier on 18.04.2026 at Police Station Dera Bassi. Further investigation is underway, added SSP.
