EXERCISE SURAKSHA CHAKRA: WESTERN COMMAND AND NDMA JOIN FORCES TO STRENGTHEN DISASTER RESPONSE IN NCR

The Western Command, in coordination with Headquarters Delhi Area, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, is participating in EXERCISE SURAKSHA CHAKRA, a three-day Integrated Disaster Management Symposium and Mock Exercise. The exercise commenced today at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt, and aims to validate planning frameworks, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and synergize a Whole-of-Government approach to disaster management.

The symposium was inaugurated by Shri Rajendra Singh, Head of Department, NDMA. Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, GOC-in-C, Western Command, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the importance of identifying vulnerable areas, risk assessment, and proactive pre-positioning of equipment and supplies for agility in response. Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area, also participated in the symposium and gave an overview of disaster threats in the Area of Operations of Delhi Area.

(SUBHEAD)The symposium, which drew distinguished delegates from civil, military, and scientific communities, focuses on preparedness for earthquake and industrial chemical hazards across 18 districts in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The exercise will feature insightful presentations, panel discussions, and an exhibition of cutting-edge relief and rescue equipment. A simulated situation exercise is scheduled for August 1, 2025, where all participating agencies will come together to test their disaster management capabilities.

Western Command's participation in EXERCISE SURAKSHA CHAKRA underscores its commitment to supporting national efforts in disaster management and mitigation.
