Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an absconding accused Ajay Kumar @ Raju Gupta, the then, Director of Idol India Group of Companies, on Wednesday from Kolkata.
CBI registered the instant case in pursuance of a notification dated 06.05.2013 issued by Govt. of Assam and order of Hon’ble Apex Court dated 09.05.2014 issued in Writ Petition (Civil) No.401/2013 & Writ Petition (Civil) No.413/2013 on the allegations that the Directors of the company by implementing different schemes under the name and style “Idol India Infrastructure Ltd., Idol India Debenture Trust, Idol India Projects Ltd.” collected huge amount of money from the innocent people of Assam by promising to return back the money with interest and misappropriated the same.
After investigation, a Charge-sheet was filed by CBI on 22.12.2022 against the accused Ajay Kumar @ Raju Gupta and others u/s 120B, 406, 409, 420 of IPC & Section 4, 5, 6 of PCMS Act.beforethe Court of Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati.
Accused Ajay Kumar @ Raju Gupta was absconding and evading his arrest since many years. Substantial efforts were made by CBI team to trace his present whereabouts at Kolkata leading to his arrest.
The arrested accused was produced before Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate, North 24 Paragana at Barasat, Kolkata, West Bengal who granted his transit remand.
