DCC President and former Zira MLA Kulbir Singh has slammed the state government for its alleged failure in eradicating the drugs from the state despite making tall claims.

(MOREPIC1) The DCC President, who interacted with a drug addict during his visit to local bus stand in Zira, said that it seems that the police and the administration are sleeping while youths are getting indulged in drugs. He said that it was the responsibility of the police and administration to ensure that nobody could use or sell drugs in public but sadly the government has failed to ensure the same and the youth of Punjab are still destroying their lives.

Kulbir said that the Anti-Drug Campaign (Yudh Nashiya Virudh) run by the Punjab police is nothing else but a joke. He said that why the police does not take action on those police officials who himself take drugs.

While targeting the health department officials, Kulbir alleged that the tablets available at various de-addiction centre and used by the drug addicts, are being sold openly in black but the health department officials and police are doing nothing. “If the officials from the health department and police do their duty honestly, only then the Punjab could become “Drug Free”, said Kulbir.

“When I asked the youth why he was taking drugs, he told me that he was unemployed and handicapped. I would recommend the Deputy Commissioner and SSP Ferozepur to get him admitted at some de-addiction centre for rehabilitation”, Kulbir further added.

Earlier this year, Kulbir had challenged CM Bhagwant Mann, AAP Ministers and field police officials to undergo dope test. In 2019, Kulbir had even boycotted the oath taking ceremony of newly elected members of panchayats, panchayat samitis and the zila parishads in presence of Congress’s then Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
