MLA Sandeep Jakhar, councilors Narinder Verma and Satish Siwan told Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, that the railway had provided a second platform at Abohar station. More than a dozen trains halt there but it has no adequate drinking water stall, toilets and larger shed for the passengers.

They said that in Abohar town, fifty percent people live on the other side of the railway station. They have to wait at B-50 Phatak that has to be closed to facilitate movement of more than two dozen trains. Many times, people have to miss their scheduled trains. Railway had long back made a budget provision of Rs 5.58 crores to provide an underpass near the PSPCL offices but implementation was awaited.

The MLA and councilors said that 13007-13008 Udyan Abha Toofan Express Train (Sriganganagar-Howrah) was cancelled in 2020 due to pandemic but has not been restored. This has affected seven states in North and West regions. Even when memorandums were given to Ambala and Ferozepur division railway managers to run more trains on the Fazilka-Abohar section that cost Railways about 400 crores but no action was taken. Only two pairs of trains were run on this route.

Bittu spoke to the Ambala DRM on phone and asked to consider the demands and take necessary action. He also said that a meeting with senior officials will be called at New Delhi to resolve these issues.
