CBI COURT SENTENCES FORMER POSTAL ASSISTANT TO FIVE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT IN RS 13.85 LAKH FRAUD CASE

The CBI Court, Bhopal, on 27.12.2025, has convicted and sentenced Rajnish Tiwari, then Postal Assistant, Lashkar Head Post Office, Gwalior to Five Years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs. 14,000, in a fraud case of Rs 13.85 Lakh. 

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 20.04.2022 based on the written complaint of Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Gwalior wherein it was alleged that the accused Rajnish Tiwari while being posted as Postal Assistant, Lashkar Head Post Office, Gwalior during the year 2020, perpetrated cheating and criminal breach of trust on the Post Office by illegal diversion of funds to the tune of Rs 13,85,496/-(approx.).

The said misappropriation/diversion of funds was allegedly done by the accused Rajnish Tiwari by manipulating the electronic records and other details in respect of 17 RD accounts of various customers in the Finacle Internet Module of the Post Office and thereafter, using internet-banking. The accused transferred the said funds from such manipulated RD Accounts to 03 regular/savings accounts opened without due process and his two savings accounts, in his own/joint name and later withdrew the diverted funds from such regular/saving accounts by utilizing the stolen ATM cards from Lashkar Head Post Office. 

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused accordingly.
