Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural, 200 people in Khuian Sarwar block of Abohar have got a major relief.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that an amount of Rs 1.40 crore has been transferred directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries through DBT. In the first phase, each beneficiary has been given the first installment of Rs 70,000 to start house construction. The total budget of this special package is fixed at Rs 2.40 crore, which will be spent for the reconstruction of houses completely damaged by the rains.
He especially thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar for this prompt assistance. He said that it is due to the efforts and sensitivity of these leaders that this special relief package has become possible for the rain victims of Abohar. Sunil Jakhar had visited the affected villages which were waterlogged due to heavy rain in August last year and assured financial help from the central government.
The MLA said, “Our aim is that every affected family gets a pucca house as soon as possible. Today the first installment of Rs 70,000 has been released so that the construction work can start immediately. The remaining amount will also be released soon as per the progress of the construction work as per the rules.
