In an intelligence-led operation amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a cross-border drug smuggling module with the arrest of four persons and recovered 5 kg heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sukhchain Singh alias Mani, Navdeep Singh, Sukhpal Singh and Akashdeep Singh, all residents of Village Daoke in Amritsar. Apart from recovering heroin consignment, police teams have also impounded their two Splendor Motorcycles (bearing registration numbers PB02EU7751 and PB02DY9343), being used for transporting the drug consignments.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that arrested accused persons were directly linked to Pak-based smuggler, who was transporting heroin consignment using drones from across the border around their village Daoke to further supply to other parties in the state.

Sharing operational details, he said that CI Amritsar had received a specific information that accused Sukhchain Singh alias Mani is operating a drug smuggling module in the state with the help of his accomplices and they have recently got a huge consignment of heroin from Pakistan with the help of drones, which they are supposed to deliver near Village Kala Ghanupur at Sada Pind in Amritsar to other parties. Acting swiftly, police teams laid Naka on the bypass road near Sada Pind Amritsar and intercepted all four suspects and recovered heroin consignment from their possession, he said.

The DGP said that further investigations are ongoing to established forward and backward linkages of the network.

In this regard, a case FIR No.5 dated 04-02-2026 has been registered under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
