An awareness program was organized by the Child Welfare Committee and the Child Rights Department, Sriganganagar, at Saraswati Senior Secondary Public School in Tatarsar. The program focused on raising awareness about child rights, child protection, and making Sriganganagar free from child marriage and preventing child marriages.

(MOREPIC1)  Child Welfare Committee Chairman Joginder Kaushik said, “Cherish children's dreams, do not marry them off.” Marrying a boy under 21 years of age or a girl under 18 years of age is a legal offense. The Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006, is in place to prevent child marriages, which prescribes a punishment of up to two years imprisonment or a fine of one lakh rupees, or both.

Assistant Director of the Child Rights Department, Renu Khairwa, discussed children's rights and encouraged them to be aware of their rights. Child Welfare Committee member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma gave a message to eradicate the social evil of child marriage from its roots. Advocate Nirpen Kamboj from the District Legal Services Authority enlightened about legal aid schemes offered by the authority.

Pledge forms were filled out by the participants, and an appeal was made through a signature campaign to cooperate with the administration in eliminating the evil practice of child marriage. Saraswati School Director Jaidev Dhaka expressed his gratitude to all the guests. Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma, students and staff of Saraswati School were present on this occasion.
