The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) has convicted Shri Anoop Sood, then Squadron Leader, Indian Air Force at Jamnagar; Shri Anil K.N. & Shri Mahendra Singh Sherawat, both then Sergeants, Indian Air Force and sentenced them to undergo life imprisonment in a case related to death of Shri Girja Rawat working as Cook in Air Force-I, Jamnagar.

CBI had registered a case on 22.02.2012 in pursuance of the orders dated 12.01.2012 of Hon’ble Gujarat High Court in Special Criminal Application No. 674/2001 filed by wife of the deceased and had taken over the investigation of the case, earlier registered at Police Station Jamnagar City, B Division related to alleged murder of Shri Girja Rawat at Air Force Station Jamnagar. It was alleged that Shri Girja Rawat was Cook in Air Force-I, Jamnagar for around 15 years and was working in DSC Mess of Air Force-I, Jamnagar.(SUBHEAD)

It was further alleged that on 13.11.1995, 10-12 Air Force Police Officials including then Squadron Leader Anoop Sood conducted searches at the residence of Shri Girja Rawat and took him with them forcibly to confess about stealing of liquor from the Air Force Canteen.

In the evening, wife of the victim visited Guard Room and requested the officials to release her husband. She was told that her husband would be released soon. The accused allegedly tortured him which caused his death. On 14.11.1995, she was informed about the death of her husband and was asked to collect the body.

After thorough investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 30.07.2013 against the accused.

The Trial Court found the said accused guilty and convicted them. Three accused were acquitted by the court and one accused expired during the trial.
