Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was all out to ruin Punjab in only two months with the State witnessing a complete breakdown in law and order, terror attacks and rampant drug overdose deaths.
Talking to newsmen after visiting Kattianwali village near Jalalabad to mourn the demise of three young children in a recent bus accident, the SAD President demanded that the AAP government give an ex-gratia compensation of at least Rs five lakh to all the victim families. He also addressed public meetings on the occasion.
SAD chief said he was shocked at the manner in which Punjab was being misgoverned. “Punjab has witnessed 27 murders. As many as 24 farmers have committed suicide even as 61 youth have lost their lives due to drug overdoses.(SUBHEAD)
Instead of providing succor to the common man and ensuring rule of law, release of crop damage compensation and provision of cooperative loans to farmers as well as acting against the drug mafia, chief minister Bhagwant Mann is holding phony photo-ops in Chandigarh. Even today two persons were injured in a firing incident during the course of a Kabaddi match in Kapurthala. If this is the ‘badlav’ AAP had promised then Punjabis are in for one of the worst phases in the history of the State”.
Asserting that AAP misled Punjabis with lies to secure their votes and had no intention of doing away with the drug menace, Badal said a delegation of villagers also met him and disclosed how the police forced the panchayat to give an undertaking that a youth who had died due to drug over dose, had suffered a seizure. “This despite the fact that a syringe was found on the person of the deceased at the time of his death”.
Sukhbir said that AAP government had failed to get the phenomenon declared as a natural calamity. Punjab government should take up the cause of farmers forcefully with the centre and demand a compensation of Rs 500 per quintal for them.
